Episode 34: Bertolli Italian Sausage & Rigatoni
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
Italian family name: check. Gold foiled packaging: check. Higher price tag: check. This Bertolli meal had all the fixins to be a sophisticated frozen meal for two. But then they went and ruined it by giving microwave directions. So you know I had to test it out and see if it tasted the way a $10 frozen meal should taste even while nuked in a microwave.

I do agree that you will need a pitcher of water when eating this meal. This being a Unilever product I get it much cheeper $4 at the company store. The food devision is coming out with some exciting new frozen products for 2009, hopefully they cut down the sodium content and healthier options.

We love Bertolli meals. They’re a little pricey but pretty darn tasty…

WE love those Bertolli meals….We add more pasta to them to stretch them out cause they are too saucy anyway!

i bought one of their dishes with shrimp and asparagus.
it was good – almost very good – but so incredibly high in
sodium you know that their testers have burnt out taste buds.
i wrote them and said lower the sodium please – they emailed back – no free coupons – but said they think their sodium is fine.
so we need to all nag them about the sodium to see if they’ll eventually think about healthy living patrons.
maybe they own stock in graveyards?

ps
on things that don’t do well in microwave, i cook at 1/2 power and they turn out fresh tasting!

This is the best frozen pasta meal I've ever tried.
