Episode 35: Ghetto Burrito Frodown

Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

I know, I know. We’ve all been there. Your pantry is empty and your bank account is in the single digits. So instead of walking down the freezer aisle gazing into the selections at eye level, you are forced to get down on one knee and see the ghetto selections at the bottom. Which one do you choose when you are crouched down so low? Do you give in to the temptation of the 5 for $3 pricetag? Or do you think differently and spring for the upscale one of the bunch at 7 cents more? It’s Tina’s vs El Monterey in an epic Beef and Bean Burrito Frodown.

FreezerBurnsTM is a video review show on a mission to deliver you real reviews and real answers to one of life’s most stressful decisions: choosing the best frozen foods on the planet. Greg is the Frozen Food MasterTM and acts as both food critic and guinea pig. Join him every tuesday and friday as he eats his way through the freezer aisle one box at a time, only on Hungry Nation.

Don’t knock Tina’s! They are pretty decent in a pinch dammit! I eat em with some white rice mixed with salsa. I like the chicken ones though.

Who in their right mind eats a burrito with a fork? You lost me at ‘fork’ Gringo Greg…

But you did make me hungry (again), so Ole to you!

eating the reviewed products with a fork guarantees as close to a sterile environment as possible. You dont see Gary Vaynerchuk pouring wine into his hands and sipping them from them do you?

1. i think for health you ought to try to go under 500 mg sodium a meal and THEN see how limited you are

my husband isn’t supposed to have more than 500 mg sodium a day!!
[high blood pressure- trying to control without meds]

2. massive applause for all your details and good filming.

Know how to keep ghetto burritos from cracking at the seam like the Tina’s one? You microwave the first minute with the seam UP, and the second minute with the seam DOWN. I’m a little embarrassed that I know that much about ghetto burritos…

What with all the hubbub surrounding the reformulation Tina’s Burritos, I would love to see an updated Frodown…between Tina’s Original and Tina’s “New.” It would be timely and interesting…the new formula is causing a lot of stir out there among food bloggers…
