Episode 44: Ethnic Gourmet Pad Thai with Tofu
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
The Frozen Food Master loves me some Pad Thai with tofu. In fact, every time I go to a new Thai restaurant I try out the pad thai to see if they are worthy of a repeat visit. So when I tried this badboy (for right or wrong) I was evaluating the entire Ethnic Gourmet line with every bite. Can tofu hold up in a microwave? Will the pad thai be awesome enough for this guy’s tastebuds?

Good review! I’m a fork piercer myself, because I’m lazy, yet kind of OCD, and I feel like I have to wash the knife if I use it, even just to pierce. So to save on dishes, it’s one fork, dual purpose.
My favorite pad thai place so far is Thai Cafe on University Dr. in Durham, but I admit I’m not a big expert on thai food.

I was looking at this the other day but I’m totally particular about pad thai, so probably not my gig. I have a hard time with microwave anything with noodles because they never come out the way I really like (consistency wise).

Ethnic Gourmet CHICKEN Pad Thai is my all time favorite frozen meal. I peel back the plastic covering and add chili oil before it ever goes in the microwave. Then, after 3 minutes (even though it’s on a turntable in the microwave) I take it out and stir it. Then it goes back in for the final 3 minutes. The tofu Pad Thai is simply not as good as the chicken version. I highly recommend trying the chicken and adding chili oil. It DOES have good flavor, but it needs help and it needs to be stirred a lot. By the way, thanks for trying things I would never try (frozen burritos, meatloaf…)

I’m trying to find a frozen vegetable pad Thai dinner with Tofu – I’ve bought this a few years ago – I think it was by “Green Grocer” or something like that. Can someone help me.
