I won’t dispute it but I would love to know what you think of Haagen-Dazs new Five line of ice cream: http://www.haagendazs.com/products/product.aspx?id=374

They contain five ingredients: SKIM MILK, CREAM, SUGAR, EGG YOLKS and what ever the flavor is (vanilla, mint, ginger, coffee, passion fruit, brown sugar or milk chocolate). I haven’t had it but am really curious. I bet it’s amazing.

Bear, funny you should ask. Stay tuned in the next couple of weeks you will know what I think of the Haagen-Dazs Five…

I dispute this claim. In my opinion, the best vanilla ice cream is Brigham’s-and I’ve tried them all. Not sure if they carry it down south though.

Paula, seriously? Brigham’s is good but nowhere close to the purity of Breyers vanilla.

I gotta say, ice creams from the local creamery is probably the only thing that could be Breyer’s, because nothing will ever beat fresh, local, farm raised dairy taste, and supporting local farmers.

But when I can’t choose local, Breyer’s is always my first pick. :]

Yea, I doth dispute thy claim. Breyers doesn’t have as much butterfat as the premium brands, mouth feel isn’t quite as good.

@Mina I agree. Local creameries are always nice but for national brands, you cant go wrong with Breyers.

@rob I am super impressed by your decision to use butterfat content as part of your criteria. I agree mouthfeel is important and I am willing to consider your argument if you can name a “premium brand” specifically that you think is better.

Personally I like soft serve but I doubt that fits in nowhere here :)

Ben & Jerry’s has butterfat up the wazoo if I remember correctly, Hagen Daaz too.

I used to work at a Bresler’s in high school for two years which is why I know about the butterfat factor. Bresler’s ice cream sucked.

/Got to eat all the ice cream I wanted for free
//It was years before I liked ice cream again
///Always look into the barrel of ice cream before ordering … if the barrel looks either sloppy or rock hard order another flavor

Greg… if you don’t keep some of that Haagen-Dazs Five around for when I am back in Raleigh I’m going to be displeased ;-)

I’m loving that Pepsi is going to release their “throwback” colas this summer using real sugar and now the Haagen-Dazs Five. Natural is far more tasty when it comes to sweets, IMO.

One of my favorite pastimes (past times?) is guessing the one-word review before the Master delivers it.

9 times out of 10 I get it wrong.

Today I nailed it.

Classic, indeed, but not the best. Do they have Brigham’s down there? (BTW- Not the best either, just a geography influenced question)

I've been addicted to Breyers Natural Vanilla for years now. At the peak of my addiction, I could go through a whole 1.5 quart in just a few days. But when I noticed that I started gaining a little weight, I cut back on it a bit.

I don't know if my taste buds changed or if Breyers decided to change the taste of it's Natural Vanilla, but there is something definitely different about it. I'm curious to know if anyone else has noticed it also.

I have been enjoying Breyer's Natural Vanilla ice cream for many years, but in an attempt to cut back on sugar, I haven't had it in quite a while. It is by far the best vanilla ice cream I have ever had (at least from a grocery store!)

Well, I was making dinner last night, and I decided to make some dessert: Breyer's Vanilla with strawberries and blueberries and some grand marnier. An awesome summertime dish. DeMon, you are totally right. I was disappointed with the “new” taste of this ice cream. Not only was the packaging smaller, but they also cut back with cheaper ingredients. I was so upset that I actually googled it to see if I was the only one that noticed. I guess not.

I’m so glad someone validated my suspicions. I thought I was the only one that noticed the change in taste. But, a wonderful thing has happened because of consumers like me & Nicole Perez. Breyers decided to return to the old formula. Now their Natural Vanilla taste just as good as it use to. I bought some last week, and confirmed this myself. 5 more pounds gained, and I’m still eating it like crack. lol http://www.d-mesh.blogspot.com check out my blog.

I’ve tried them all. I’ve been all over this planet in my lifetime and nothing, nothing is as good as Breyer’s Natural Vanilla ice cream. Even the local dairy brands and home-mades I’ve had over the years can’t begin to touch the luscious sweet mellow vanilla taste of Breyer’s. Breyer’s wins. Hands down.

Breyer’s “Natural” vanilla is okay, but not as good as it used to be before Good Humour bought them and changed the recipe. It’s OK…just not GREAT like it used to be.

Turkey Hill makes a Philly Vanilla JUST LIKE the OLD Breyers. AWESOME.

BLUE BELLE is ONE OF THE BEST Vanillas you can GET. TRY IT if you are in the midwest. HOMEMADE vanilla (Gold Rim).

Our family has recently noticed a change in Breyers vanilla – they say it’s icy. So we’re going back to Hagen Daaz vanilla which can’t be beat. The old Breyers was close to Hagen Daaz vanilla, but now doesn’t compare.
