Episode 74: Stouffers Spinach Soufflé

Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

This episode is dedicated to Paige and Adrianne. Paige wanted me to review this popular Stouffers Spinach Souffle dish and Adrianne wanted me to compare a product cooked both in the microwave and the oven.

I really put this thing to the test. It looked like the Swamp Thing when it was frozen solid but it certainly transformed into something more magical after it cooked. But which cook method will prevail?

I bet all your coworkers don’t share with two other people. Don’t you figure most folks eat the whole icky thing?

Man, I love me some spinach but that mushy foamy green stuff is just wrong.

Yes, I know most people eat the whole thing. Its crazy to think how much “icky” is packed into 3 servings!

Great review….I know you said you can’t do this for all the reviews but maybe a monthly special or something. It definitely adds another level or dynamic to the review. I’m surprised that there was quite a noticeable difference. I’d love to try this myself. I think the big one will be once you get a deep fryer and compare using that as opposed to microwaving or using the oven.

Thank you Greg!!
This was awesome. Just what i was hoping for. I am tooooo lazy to try it in the oven lol..i always micro it..and i eat it ALL at one time lol..but..i dont eat meat, so for me, its a meal.

Do you have a PO box? You should post it if you do..i agree with Thomas up there that all your work and the entertainment value deserves compensation, i dont have paypal..but would love to send a gift by mail.

Also..please consider reviewing more foods that are not good, as Joss Whedon once said..”Happy Buffy, no ratings..Sad Buffy, high ratings” for some reason seeing you NOT like something is so much better than when its good!

Thank you again, you are awesome!!

Thanks Kerry! That’s actually not a watch. Its a pink and teal snap bracelet that my daughter wanted me to wear. If you look closely, its only in the last segment of the episode.

hmmm, you know Ive been watching your reviews for a long time now and ive been wondering as to how come you havnt done a Mac and cheese frodown. there are lots of varieties and lots of choices to choose from. But as you said, it would be kind of expencive and such to actually taste all of them. Well its just a thought in the near future if ya ever decide to do another frodown.

By the way the carmelization (browning) on the oven souffle is from the Mallard reaction. A complex reaction that occurs when the natural sugars in food reach 340 degrees farinheit and begin to change molecularly. Its the reason why toast tastes so different from bread. And yeah the quote is from ghostbusters. Got to love Egon. By the way love the show ever since I saw you on the thunder show. Keep up the work.

Great idea Adrianne. I have been hearing about people using this dish to use as a sauce for other dishes. Thats in the works…

Yeah, I bought one of these to try it, but it just didn’t work for me at all. It had the smell and taste of seaweed like the stuff they wrap sushi with.
I did cook it the long way in the oven, and just after one bite I had to just throw the whole thing away.
Sorry, i did have good hopes for this, but not on this one :-(
