Episode 82: Popsicle Ice Cream Shots vs. Kemp’s IttiBitz
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
They are like little frozen balls rattling around in your mouth. Popsicle calls them Ice Cream Shots. Kemp calls them IttiBitz. But the real inventors of this type of ice cream is Dippin’ Dots and they use a fancy phrase like “cryogenic encapsulation”. Frankly, the only thing I think about when I hear “cryogenic” is Ted Williams’ head (god rest his soul) and I certainly don’t want to taste test that.
Whatever you call it, they seem to be more novelty than substance — something that seems like a cool idea when you are at an amusement park not as much when you are in your own home. For this episode I was joined by Colton, my Halo playing, Metallica loving, 10 year old neighbor.

I love Dippin Dots but they have no real substance!
Only ever tried them once in my life and now live in a country that doesnt offer anything even remotely similar!

Nice review! Cool kid
It’s amazing to me how the original products are always going to be a staple. Plain vanilla plain chocolate ice cream are ALWAYS going to be the best option. McDonald’s #1 seller will always be the tiny a#@ cheeseburger…cheese and pepperoni will always be the best selling pizza no matter what CPK or Wolfgang can concoct.
Novelty items are not often supremely successfully. It’s be interesting to see what others think is the most successful novelty item. Can you think of products that stayed around and became permanent options?
I guess in all reality the Big Mac was at one point!
But thing’s like Fiery Nacho Double Orange Spice Blast Cheddar Cheetos (made up
) don’t normally stick around.

Wow, he looks just like me when I was 10, only I was a little darker (tan skin), when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Except for Halo, it was Contra for the NES, and I was more of an AC/DC fan than Metallica.

You sure picked the right kid to evaluate frozen sweet treats, says the Vermonty-auntie who’s often been impressed with Mr. Colton’s dedication to ice cream.

why do you waste half the video talking about nothing? your videos are interesting but so hard to get through. I let them load and forward through most of them.

@bals to put it bluntly, I “waste half the video talking about nothing” because it’s my show and I like to talk about nothing sometimes.

I've tried dipping dots, and the fruit flavors are practically no different then any other fruit ice cream I had. They are pretty interesting and have a nice consistency, but sometimes they do not execute the ice to cream ratio quite right- Kind of like eating super hard ice rocks.
