Check all of your preconceptions of what a quesadilla is at the door because this is nothing but an oversized Hot Pocket with perforations splitting into fourths. I am probably not telling you anything that you don’t already know: The extension of the Hot Pockets product lineup carries no real difference in anything but what they call it on the box. This “change the name, not the ingredients” technique works for pasta makers where even though a fettuccini noodle tastes just like a spaghetti noodle, it is the shape that alters the way it clings to sauce or how you consume it. But for Hot Pockets it never seems to change anything .

I don’t know why I thought these new Lean Pockets Stuffed Quesadillas would be any different. Maybe it was the new typography on the box. Or the Green and yellow arrows that made me feel I was in for a fiesta in my mouth. Instead I was met with basically something less than the satisfaction of an ordinary Lean Pocket.

This “quesadilla” was if they had some leftover Chicken and cheese from other Lean Pocket offerings and jammed them into a new dough shape. But here, the new shape hurt this dish rather than helped it. By making them a slightly thinner pocket, it was drier and crustier. And although it said it was “stuffed” it was nowhere close to the “stuffed” status I have been enjoying from Smart Ones in recent days.

The chicken pieces were scarce and the three cheese blend tasted like a nacho cheese blend from the movie theatre snack bar. Thank god this thing was only one serving so I didn’t have to feel guilty about doubling up servings like other Lean Pockets products. This was mediocre at best.
