I’m a lazy man. I prefer food when I want it and when I want it is: NOW! That means that I always go microwave, but today I’ve learned a good lesson: sometimes it’s better to wait a few minutes longer if it means better quality. Luckily, there where two pizzas the size of four pizza rolls in this package. So as my treat to you, I’m going to review both of these pizzas, one in the microwave and one in the oven and get a raw score.

Microwave: You are given a crisping tray and told to microwave for a minute and twenty seconds to a minute and thirty five seconds. It couldn’t get any easier and sadly it couldn’t get much crappier. It smelled awesome and the pizza toppings and cheese themselves tasted good. What I didn’t like was the chewy, mushy like crust. Granted some of the ends were crisp, but overall the crisping trey was worthless. The consistency overall was crappy. But what really made me mad was that the toppings and cheese shifted (didn’t fall off, but a portion of the cheese fell off the crust and hardened I assume from the trey) and made it crunchy, dry, and gross. The one thing that I thought was: this would taste damn good if only I used the oven. I would give this a 3 star at best.

Oven: Now I had to get myself a drink and wait. While turning the dial to 400 degrees, letting it preheat, and sticking the munchkin pizza into the oven for 12-15 minutes. Took it out and it smelled amazing. You can actually tell that it had a crust that was golden brown as well as thin and crispy (kinda like what the product was supposed to be, hmmm.) Good consistency which complements the toppings pretty well. I have to say in comparison to the microwave, even if you are lazy or in a hurry, it is well worth the extra 10-15 minutes. It wasn’t flawless, but it delivered. I would give this a good 4 star. I can’t stress how much cooking it like this is better. Just ignore the fact that there are microwave directions all together. Red Baron should not have done that to their product. It wasn’t even that great a time leap from a minute to 10. Overall: 3 1/2 stars.

WOW! you could not be more correct! just had this for lunch and was very disapointed! I did use the mircowave and got a soggy soggy pizza :( next time i will use the toaster oven!
  • Thomas, great review! I always dig the comparisons, whether in cooking times or methods or of course the Frodowns.

I must say though for not much more $$$ and only 10-12 minutes time, I can whip you up a nice personal pie that will blow this thing out of the water...but I digress, it's hard for me when I see the pizza reviews...ALL I think about is pizza :)

Good info. I have a toaster oven that I would probably use for a small pizza like this. I think the issue would be that you'd have to watch it more closely, since toaster ovens tend to burn things.
