Lean Cuisine Sweet & Sour Chicken
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
If a kid was writing this review they would tell you it tastes like someone threw a couple of red hot candies into a vat of Starbursts. A good sweet and sour sauce should have a great balance between the sweet and the sour. Otherwise it would be Sweet chicken with a hint of sour. This Lean Cuisine Sweet & Sour Chicken is a whole lot of sweet and a little spiciness kicked in at the back of your palate. But the sweetness tastes artificial and citrus-sy like an orange Starburst. The added pieces of pineapples didn’t add to the desired, more-subtle flavoring. It didn’t help that in some cases, the pineapple was the same size as the chicken and when all of it is doused in red sauce, you never know what you are going to get with each bite.
And that basically nails the coffin shut for this review. After all, without the sauce, this ceases to be a “Cafe Classic” (like it says in the box). And the sauce is too artificial to be “cafe” and just plain too sweet to be a “classic”.
Oh yeah, the chicken is ok and the rice was plentiful. This is one I’m going to avoid next time. 2 1/2 Stars
