Episode 99: Morningstar Farms Hickory BBQ Riblets
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
Today I am joined by good friend and web content creator, Chris Hadley from chrisphadley.com. I try to save the best products for my guests and today’s review is no different. Together we review the Morningstar Farms Hickory BBQ Riblets, talk about what type of vegetable has ribs, and laugh at the appearance of Mr. Hanky. Is there any possible way a vegetarian “rib” product can score high with the Frozen Food Master?

Awesome. Cool to see you and Chris in a video review. I’ve only had the Morningstar Chikn patties and they are really pretty good. Award winning. I’ll have to give these riblets a shot…I’ll eat pretty much anything with BBQ sauce.

@Jonathan: Glad you liked it. Chris and I had a blast shooting it.
@Ryan: Yes, Morningstar Chick’N Patties seriously rock. And sorry, Paul is not it.

Okay at 4 1/2 stars I’m going to have to give this a try, to be honest I don’t really know anything about veggie meat products. I’m not a vegan.
As far as the middle name for Chris, I just have to guess Phillip.

I am going to guess that Phil is his middle name

I concur with the review. These are that good. I’m disappointed that there’s only two per box. The Garderburger ones are just as good.

Great freakin episode boys! Had me laughing throughout. That was the longest episode to date I believe. I’m amazed that the being the huge meat consumer that you are that these got 4.5 stars….that’s awesome…I’ll have to get me some.
That’s easy the “P” stands for pimp (pronounced pyyyyyyimp)….but if I had to actually guess, seeing that Chris is a whiteboy (as white as they come
) it’s probably just Paul….or Peter…or Phillip.
I believe okra has ribs…right? Peppers….bell peppers? Worth $4.50 a box….?
Damn you, I was going to ask about the smocky/smokey but you ended up getting to it.
Chris reminds me of Toby on The Office
100% vegan….if it’s vegan, it’s vegan. There is no 90% vegan, WTF?
And that did totally look like Mr. Hanky…..may have to reconsider trying this. I bet that would be great in a nice bun…..ah I just read that back and that doesn’t sound right….anyways, you know what I mean.

Hey guys, I will announce what the “P” stands for at the end of the day today.
@Bear: There was one episode that was longer. Can you tell me which it was? It clocked in at over 26 minutes.

Ok, I’m going to guess ‘Peter’. Great review guys! I have been wanting to try these and while I typically like dry rub ribs, sometimes I crave the sauce. THe big turn off for me when it comes to “fake” ribs is when they try to get too ‘authentic’. Remember the original McRibs, when they had that fake strip of fat on it? Ewwwww.
Oh, btw, a sieve is another name for a strainer.

I think people should either say they eat meat and eat meat. Or say they wont eat meat and not even get to have a substitute. You made the decision not to eat meat, you miss out on the good stuff like BBQ ribs.

Doesn’t celery have ribs?
P stands for Picard.

I’m loving seeing all the guesses for my middle name. Have had a few real laugh out loud moments this morning reading them
Bear.. Toby.. really. You couldn’t say Jim
At least you didn’t say Kevin haha. Keep those guesses coming!

@Chis P. – It’s gotta be one of these: Pablo, Parker, Patrick, Paul, Paxton, Payton, Pedro, Peter, Peyton, Philip, Phillip, Phoenix, Pierce, Pierre, Porter, Pranav, Preston or Prince……and at least I didn’t say you reminded me of Phyllis
I meant that you reminded me of Toby in the best possible way
@Greg – Duh, I should have known (although I haven’t confirmed it) it’s gotta be Episode 25, the mack daddy of them all!

I don’t mind the longer videos, I can pause them for a moment when I’m watching something on television, or on the telephone. I wish i had a DVR

Maybe it’s just me because I’ve been a vegetarian for so long, but these things taste pretty dang close to the real thing!

Mmmm… Riblets are AMAZING! But you have to cook them properly… my Dad, who is a butcher and a meat-eater found these to be better than any “real” rib he's ever eaten. The best way to cook them is to let them thaw, put them in a pan with a little oil, start frying them up on both sides, then pour some bbq sauce on them, put a lid over it and let it simmer down to a yummy, stickiness, and a little burning of the sauce. They are made from texturized vegetable proteins. I can't believe people think that's weirder to eat than to eat the flesh of an animal who suffered. THAT's weird.

the frog and ebay reference was funny. Long but interesting demonstration. I wondered what are the ingredients like vegetable base for the ribs?

Ive made this in the oven and its AMAZING. Im a vegan, but Im also a huge foodie and know what ribs used to taste like in my pre – vegan life. I think they are awesome, and soooo much better in the oven. its easy – just cut them out, wrap them in foil and put it in for 30 min. sooo simple. they are great!!

Ive tried much of Morning Star products due to the frozen food master, their grillers are awesome, the pieces of “ground meat” worked well, and the spicy black bean burgers are just f'ing amazing, but i tried the ribs, and was disappointed, first time I cooked too long, directions lied! The next time i cooked it, it was ok, the sauce was decent but overall, it was the worst of any morning star product Ive tasted. Only 2 in the box is the real kick me in the ass price point after eating it, or the saving grace , Im not quite sure!
