Zesty is such a great word isn’t it? It makes me feel like my tastebuds are going to jump off my tongue as if my tongue is a trampoline and they french kiss in mid-air. That’s the way zesty should be: sexy and a little dangerous.

When I first tried the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers Sweet & Spicy Orange Zest Chicken I must have missed the “Zest” part in the product listing because I was expecting the “Sweet & Spicy” with great ferocity. What I got was something strangely tangy and puckerable in the upfront and then sweet and spicy in the back. A very enjoyable flavor combination but one I did not expect.

I like surprises and discovering the reason for that tangy taste after the fact is almost like getting scared by a guy in a gorilla suit only to find out the next day, it was your dad. I suspect I will enjoy the act of discovery tomorrow more than the taste today.

Here’s what we got for this meal. It’s chicken breast with rice and vegetables in a spicy orange peel sauce. I might add that the vegetables contain super yummy sugar snap peas and the strainer contraption in this Cafe Steamers meal cooked those sugar snap peas to perfection.

Overall I found this meal to be quite enjoyable. The quantity was decent, the chicken pieces were large, and the flavor was yum (albeit surprising).

  • getting scared by a guy in a gorilla suit only to find out the next day, it was your dad" Classic quote! This actually looks pretty good, I would try this. $3.50 is a good price as well.

By zest, I think they mean orange zest like lemon zest, kinda like the grated skin for some lemony flavor or in this case, orange-y flavor.
  • "puckerable" huh? Not quite sure how I'd feel about that :) Sounds like a fun dish to try.

Let me ask, do you use chop sticks while eating the Asian meals? I make myself a stir-fry most evenings and I always use chop sticks. I find it more rewarding to eat this way...like somehow I've earned it more than if I was just stabbing it with a fork or shoveling it with a spoon.

Let me ask this as well Mr. Ng, have you ever ordered "extra snap peas please?" What agenda do you have against my beloved water chestnut, huh?

I use chopsticks when I am out eating asian meals. But when it comes to lunch in the office, I just shovel it in. And I have nothing against water chestnuts other than the fact that they are tasteless and provide filler for an otherwise delicious meal! ;)
  • Touche good man....touche.

P.S. I really like DISQUS. It's probably super easy to implement in Wordpress, huh?

It is super easy. In fact, it will be even better when the video commenting function is back online. Thats the main reason why i implemented it.
