Episode 107: Healthy Choice Portabella Spinach Parmesan
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
What can I say, people consider me a fun guy but I just don’t like mushrooms. Don’t like them in any way, shape, or form. But I do know what fresh ingredients and good flavor combinations taste like. So does this Healthy Choice Portabella Spinach Parmesan have any of those qualities?

I might have to give this one a shot, only because I do like mushrooms. I just hope the pasta is not too chalky, I don't think you mentioned what you thought about the pasta.
I myself have a thing about sushi with its seaweed wrapper, and the raw fish. I have never liked it for those reasons. I have tried the ones with the cooked seafood, but the seaweed wrapper is still there. (it tastes like low tide smells)

I guess the obvious question is–if you don't like mushrooms, why did you review this? Life's too short to make yourself eat things you don't like. I don't like seafood so even though you raved about Margaritaville shrimp I won't try them because I know I won't like it. I'm glad you sacrifice yourself for the greater good of the show but still …

Great question. I reviewed it because it is a newer offering from Healthy Choice and its something I bet people have seen in their freezer aisle and wondered about. Doing it for the greater good!

Good point NewWorldSmurf…eat only the good stuff
What's your very favorite Frozen item you've had….since like childhood, that you LOVE. That would actually be a fun review to watch…just to see you swoon over it.
Haha, “I didn't even know there were 9 grains.” – I was going to say the opposite…that description from the box of the meal makes my mouth water…this type of food is what I normally eat (fresh homemade though). I love me some mushrooms and especially Portabella…they're practically meat, sometimes they're heartier than a steak….okay, maybe that's going too far but sometimes I'll just throw those on the grill and eat them as I would a slab o' meat. I'm all about the “vegetable…drag it through the garden” meals….whatever that means
Geek tangent. Star Wars bounty hunters. Fortress of Solitude? That's even too geeky for me. (Just checked into it)…I've never been a huge Superman guy, I was into X-Men and Spiderman…..oh and Spawn and Savage Dragon! What's your favorite comic book? In all honesty mine is Archie….ya hear he's getting married in August…I won't tell you to whom though.
Great freakin' review Greg….there was loads of funnies in there
Too bad you don't like mushrooms….otherwise I could see this being a much higher reviewed dish.

Bear, you had to look up the Fortress of Solitude?! You need to do yourself a favor and go and Netflix the original Superman movie with Christopher Reeves. And if you make it to Superman II, make sure you rent the Richard Donner Director's cut rather than the original theatrical release. You wont be disappointed.
As for comic books, I was huge into Green Lantern and the Green Lantern Corp. But I also liked Usagi Yo jimbo. Look that baby up (especially if you were into TMNT)

I know, I know…I really should watch those old movies. Some other movies I haven't seen….and I know you're a HUGE fan, any of the Godfathers….Rockys…>Rambos….Jaws….Aliens….Braveheart…..Shawshank….Green Mile….I could probably go on and on….there are too many….Scarface…..I don't know, when I watch a movie I want to just relax and laugh, not follow a story really closely….for that I'd opt for a book.

Usagi Yo Jimbo Rox! You are totally my hero, or I am a WAY bigger geek than I thought I was…

Sounds like a great chick dish
I LOVE mushrooms, so I bet it will be in my cart next time I go shopping. In regards to the opened package. I had a Kashi dish with the same issue, but I was afraid to eat it, so I tossed it and emailed Kashi. They were very apologetic and sent me a coupon for a free frozen meal! I was a little confused on the grains. Didn't you start off saying 9 grains and then a grain fell off and it became 8? Or was it 7 to start with and it picked up a hitchhiker grain? Let's see…wheat, rye, millet, barley, spelt, rice, corn, flax…that's all I can think of.

Another great review. I appluade you for trying something that you might not like but there may be mushroom loving fans that would benifit from your review.
Loved the reference to “In Living Color” and the Homie the Clown “I don't think so…..Homie don't play that!”. TOO FREAKIN' FUNNY!!!
By the way thanks for the coupons hope you got my email with my address.

Ewww, fungus.
I'm with Todd, though–what did you think of the pasta? I've find multi-grain pastas to be really chewy and oddly textured.

Hey Bear, Moriah here (she of the confused Weird Al info *blush*)
I'm kinda the same way with movies. I STILL haven't seen Forrest Gump. It's almost like the more buzz a movie gets, the less I like it. Mebbe it's a hidden rebel side.
But you MUST watch Shawshank Redemption. Its . . . its too hard to describe. It's a mystery, a survivalist movie, and a justice movie all in one. Check out TBS, they show it rather often. Give it a shot. Seriously.

Hehe
K, I'll watch it…but I recommend you watch Forest Gump, that's a great movie!
What are your favorite movies? Mine? All the LOTRs, Good Will Hunting, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (I can watch that over & over & over), Elf

Everyone, just finished a great phone call with Healthy Choice and they gave me the list of the 9 Whole Grains in the pasta. They are: Wheat, Barley, Rye, Oats, Amaranth, Quinoa, Millet, Sorghum, and Teff.
