Michelina’s Lean Gourmet Salisbury Steak
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

Welcome to the meat and potatoes hour! The classic masterpiece of meat on one end, potato on the other, and a mass of brown sauce connecting the two. Where you don’t know where the meat ends and starchy goodness begins. This is actually more than I expected. Checking in at a impossible to resist price of $1.00, this Michelina’s Lean Gourmet Salisbury Steak was as advertised: the aforementioned meat and potatoes. I was a little skeptical at first (see pic below for evidence) but this turned out to be pretty decent.

And with some “leaner” nutritional specs, it felt almost like I was doing something good for myself. Almost. The salisbury steak was firm and hearty at a thickness around 1/2 an inch. The potatoes were surprisingly moist and fluffy. The brown sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. Don’t bother looking for other vegetables or a dessert for this one — it seems that any addition to this meal would have either increased the price or downgraded the meat. This was an admirable use of a buck. It’s maybe even worth $1.10.

You might pay 10c extra, huh?
That's a pretty good rating for something at costs the same as a 10-10-220 call.
I swear, if your sleeves weren't rolled up I'd have thought you were in a hospital gown. It caught my attention twice.

Oooh. One of my favorite Michelina meals. This meal is surprisingly filling for such a small amount. These are some of the best frozen dinner mashed potatoes you can find.
Greg, I'm gonna be doing sorta my own version of a frodown. Kinda. Lemme explain. After your glowing review of the Stouffer's Grandma's Rice and Chicken Bake, I bought one. It was pretty righteous. I saw today that Marie Callendar's has a cheesy chicken and rice. It was on sale, so I bought one. I'm gonna have it for dinner tomorrow and see how it compares to Stouffers. I'll send you a written review.
