Episode 114: Chung’s White Meat Chicken Egg Rolls

Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

There are 2 diferent types of egg rolls in this world: the kind that makes you feel like you painted your face with a stick of butter after you ate it and the kind that doesn’t. No matter what you stick in it. No matter what the size is or how many you eat, it always comes down to the greasiness of the product. So how will the Chung’s White Meat Chicken Egg Rolls measure up? And will this “white meat chicken” call out mean that the filling actually matters?

Okay, before I watch this…my prediction…it's going to be soggy.

5 Grams sugar…is that necessary? I find myself wondering a lot of times why they add certain amounts of certain ingredients. Maybe this was in the famous sauce? Must be.

Was that an FOTC reference? It's bizness time! I love those guys.

Another thing I wondr about is multiple items in the micro…how are the rays absorbed? How many different things can you add without it changing the dynamics of the cooking….or does even the slightest change affect it?

Takin' one for the team with the no cooling time…..don't do it….ahhhh…to bad :) What's the worst you've ever burnt you mouth?

YES!!! Prediction accurate! It's always the case with them things…..gotta oven 'em or DF 'em.

Honestly….you should be a copy editor/consultant for the frozen food box….you are the authority on what should/shouldn't be on there. That would be epic. “Endorsed by the Frozen Food Master!”

Another stupid move from the “master”. How annoying. It's soft? Soggy? Guess fucking why. It really is annoying. Did you EXPECT it to be crunchy? What in the hell did you expect, seriously?

I realize it's easier and quicker to use the microwave, but quality suffers 80% of the time. You're CONSTANTLY complaining about that — the sogginess of something and all that. It really is annoying.

AS, you may want to do your research before you vomit up criticism. These would have no doubt been crispier in the microwave but they didn't need to be soggy. When I did the egg roll frodown both were crunchy out of the microwave.

And as I mentioned in response to your previous comment, all of my reviews (when applicable) are cooked in the microwave. Yet you continue to comment on the same thing through back episodes. Save yourself the trouble of commenting. Sheesh.

90% of these convenience foods are going to be microwaved by Parents in a Hurry, or Kids preparing their own snack.

Not as crispy as in the oven, forgivable.. actually soggy not so much.
Some of these foods are packed in a “crisper box” or with some kind of metalicized plate for crisping the item. (some of the mini-pizzas for example)

I started eating Chung's chicken egg rolls in 2006. At that time, they came in a plastic shrink wrap with a foam board. Now they are placed in a nice box. The first Chung's egg rolls that I ate where extremely greasy/oily. A few days ago I decided to buy Chung's egg rolls again. They have changed a lot since I last bought them in late 2006. The first thing that I noticed is that they are smaller. The second thing that I noticed is that they are not that greasy anymore. They actually improved the taste! I would have to give these egg rolls a 4.5 out of five. The only thing that I dislike about the rolls is that they do not give you enough sauce.

Watched your review. We'll try them deep fried. Thanks for the info. Most egg rolls I have tried from the microwave do end up kind of soggy. The ones from Sams in a big package are OK and I get what I expect. Quick snacks. Keep up the good work.
