Episode 118: Ming Tsai Chicken Pad Thai
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
Ming Tsai is one of my favorite celebrity chefs and his restaurant, Blue Ginger, used to be one of my favorite places to eat when I lived in Boston. So how will this Ming Tsai Chicken Pad Thai hold up to those lofty expectations?

Favorite chef: the fictional Fritz Brenner (personal chef to Nero Wolfe, detective). Sort of TV (there were a couple of series in the 80s and some made-for-TV movie versions), but mainly mystery novels from 1934-1975. Food features prominently in all the stories. There is even a Nero Wolfe Cookbook, which has some amazingly good recipes.

Pad Thai with bell pepper? That Ming Tsai is off his rocker! At least he didn't dull it down for the American palates. I think I'll pass on this and go down to my local Thai restaurant lol
Nice review Greg!

So if the next time you review one of his meals and you find lots and lots of chicken, then you know he is watching! I've been tempted to pick up some of his stuff at Target. Bobby Flay and his Throwdowns are the BOMB

That copy is fantastic….really that's how all boxes should sound if the marketing guys are doing their jobs. I'm loving the tender, sweet, tangy.
Greg don't doubt your influence, you may very well be thee reason for the stovetop only cooking.
I love the “remove noodles from ALL packaging”. I wonder what the longest cooking instructions are. Anyone out there have a story of extensive cooking from a frozen food product?
Apparently you won't fin this on Amazon.com

I must say, that looks amazing in the bowl. Also sir, I know I've said this before, but a portion or serving isn't necessarily a meal…they assume I think that'll you'll be having your spring roll or salad with your Pad Thai to make a meal. I would certainly say that half of that is a good serving.
Favorite chef….man I used to love Martin Yan “If Yan can cook…so can you!”. He's a local boy but I think he got semi famous nationaly:

Yan is freakin' awesome! I also really like Mr. Brown for all his lessons and science behind the cooking. Mr. Flay is cool but gets too much hype. Batali rocks because he's just that damn good. Emeril is funny and entertaining. I really like Todd English only because I've actually had his cooking. Rachel Ray is funny/annoying/crazy/enertaining and fills a need I guess. Giada is hot. I think I'm going too far with this though. I actually really like Paula Deen, I know I shouldn't but maybe that's why I do…like teenagers and drinking, or pot. I mean who else deep fries butter?

My favorite chef is Alton Brown! Anyone who makes you laugh and enjoy what your learning I have total respect for!
I really was hoping that you would enjoy Ming Tsai's meal. I don't watch the food network that much anymore, but I use to watch it all the time with my Mom, she use to love the show East Meets West.

I can't choose my favorite chefs – top two would be Wylie Dufresne and Alton Brown.

I think you should do a week of reviews when you actually do the PREFERRED method of these bag meals. Maybe even some you have already reviewed and compare.

QOTD: Favorite Chef, without question, Julia Child. She is a culinary legend. Food TV before FoodTV was cool.
What is the deal with Ming Tsai and Bok Choy? Does he really need to put it in every bag meal?

Did you see the Food Network special on Julia? They were doing a series on the history of their chefs and she was featured on the first episode. It was absolutely fascinating! What a woman.

I don`t know if she is a “Chef” or not , but I am a fan of Giada De Laurentiis and her two friends.

As far as I am concerned, it does not matter if she's a chef or not. I think there should be a Giada spinoff channel.

Dang…I totally forgot Nigella Lawson, that chick is amazing. Giada is cool but a whole channel?!? I might need some coffee to keep watching that.

The Wiki says she is a bonafied (That's what she said) chef. I've watched her shows for hours on end and can not name a single dish she has made. Her two friends make very frequent appearances on the show and are very distracting (not in a bad way).

I say her show for the first time yesterday morning. She is a bit wide in the hips for my taste, but I bet she would change my mind about that straight away.

Jim – What?!? She's cook! …and a tremendous one at that. ….and a terrific personality. I think maybe this is why the Food Network's programming has declined so much….to placate different viewers.

Bear, If I had a woman like Nigella, I would consider myself lucky. She is a doll, she is a great cook, and I am sure she takes care of business
Really though , first time I saw her was yesterday morn after I saw your post.

Favorite TV chef is Anthony Bourdain. He doesn't cook on TV, but his restaurant is great and he's a cool dude.

I found your Blog doing a Goggle “Potsticker” search. I found your show interesting and entertaining. I have a frozen traditional Joyce Chen Chinese Potsticker and was wondering how to get our items reviewed. Having lived in Boston I wonder if you are familiar with us.
