Call for Contenders: The Popsicle Frodown
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
Well I have waited 8 long months for this weekend to come. I had made a self-imposed July 4th weekend date as the start of the popsicle (and other frozen stick treats) reviews. I plan on kicking it off with a Popsicle Frodown and I need your help for suggestions. What are your favorite frozen sticked treats?
Until then, enjoy this NKOTB classic

Dear God, the Jonas Brothers sound like Guns 'n' Roses compared to that!
I'm not a big popsicle fan, but you could always do the chocolate-coated vanilla ice cream on a stick Frodown.

Greg, popsicles suck (pun intended)!!!! It's all about ice cream sangwhiches.
…but since you altered it a little with the “favorite frozen sticked treat” I'd definitely got with a frozen banana dipped in chocolate rolled in Reese's bits!!!!! Mmmmmm.

Edey's has these awesome real fruit frozen “bars”. I've been eating them for so long that the syrup-sweet based 'sicles taste so fake to me I can't eat them.

Sigh.
Sorry.

When it comes to sticks, I go fruity. Edy's makes some very good fruit bars. They had a very good Mango..not sure if it still exists. If you want real, real fruit and nothing else, Whole Foods sells individual bars, not sure who makes them, but they come in all kinds of neat flavors.

If we ever get to cones, you have gotta try the Skinny Cow's Vanilla-Caramel…oooooooh, heaven!

If we are talking popsicles I'm with @Meg and @Alex! I love the Edy's Fruit Bars, my fave flavor is the coconut.

But if we are talking ice cream treats I love Haagen-Dazs Dark Chocolate Vanilla

Yep, I've gotta go with the Dreyer's (Edy's to you) fruit bars. My favorite is lemon. Tastes like frozen lemonade. Mmmmmm.

Fudge bars! Yum.
or, as others have said, the fruity ones . I think the contenders need to be all of the same family, no?
OR, those fruity one with the cream center. Like creamsicles, but I've also seen them in raspberry. So good.
you could just do frodown after frodown!

Two words Greg, Bomb Pops! Accept no substitutes….well Popsicle brands calls them Fire Crackers now, but they are still the bomb!

The best frozen treat had to be the original Popsicle in banana flavor (sadly no longer made)… the one I used to get when I was a kid when our old, retired neighbor Pete, would yell “Hey, bub, c'mere!”. (Every kid on the block was known as “Bub” to him.) He'd give you a nickel (this was a loooong time ago), and you'd go across the street to the neighborhood grocery and get a frozen treat on a hot summer day.
These days we almost always have Dove bars in our freezer — the Chocolate ice cream with Dark Chocolate variety.

Those banana popsicles were awesome. As kids my siblings and I would fight over those and the root beer ones (which I believe are also defunct).

I don't even know if you can still buy these in the freezer section, but the old school popsicle brand twin pops!

I have to admit that my favorite frozen treat on a stick is probably a chocolate-covered frozen banana… but in terms of Popsicles and similar products, here's another vote for the Edy's fruit bars (favorite flavors are grape, strawberry, and coconut).
@eric p – I agree; Bomb Pops are a classic that should be included in this “Frodown”!
I also recommend Blue Bunny Banana Pops, but I don't know if these are available nationally or not (it may be just a Midwest thing):

According to this link, both of these products do indeed still exist:

And finally… if any frozen treat on a stick is fair game for this Frodown, there is just no disputing the greatness that is the almighty Pudding Pop:

Frozen pudding on a stick. I mean, how can you possibly beat that?
