I've had stuffed cabbage at a polish restaurant and they were good. I'm also a fan of stuffed peppers and grew up eating a lot of those. I wouldn't bother with the frozen versions of either as freezing them ruins the texture of the “container” (soggy cabbage/bell pepper). Not that I eat every bite of the pepper/cabbage anyway as I'm more interested in the meat/rice stuffing and sauce.

I wonder where that little anchovy was hiding. You know I have to stock anchovies at the restaurant but I've never had it on a pie…..I've always wanted to though. Only had 'em in a Caesar salad.

I actually LOVE LOVE LOVE cabbage. I really like it boiled with soy sauce and Chinese Hot Mustard…..so good. I've never had stuffed cabbage and no that does not look appetizing. I wonder if you'd be able to find out when that went on the market, how long it'll remain on the market and how well it sold/didn't sell. I'll be looking for it on the clearance shelf. Speaking of that, does anyone out there dare buy from their supermarket's clearance shelves?

I'm not a huge stuffed cabbage person or unstuffed cabbage for that matter. I would still try this though, for those days when you need a comfort meal. Since the pic on the box hardly ever matches the actual product, it doesn't really matter. I think you do need to use a knife with this meal. Then you can carefully cut a chunk of cabbage and get both it and the filling together. This might be a good candidate for a candlelit meal

Found it!!!! In the worcestershire sauce. Wonder why they call it out? Are some people allergic? I love anchovies, but not on stuff. When I get a greek salad, I get them on the side. Yum! As for clearance, if it is something I like and the container looks undamaged, then I will go for it.

I lived off of Lean Cuisine on and off for years and I would never touch that one! Yuck! Of course I'm not a big fan of stuffed cabbage either.

Yeah, I've actually bought from the clearance section it just scares me. I'm assuming most of the items get designated as such due to their lack of popularity. Either that of the box had been damaged. They're always super dusty and just look old.

Cabbage is the sort of thing people ate during World War II to help contribute to the war effort.
“Everybody eat the cabbage, let's save the real food for the boys on the front lines fighting off Hitler!!!”
The only people who actually eat this stuff are the very elderly and people from Eastern European nations who have only recently converted from communism.

I got curious as to these hidden anchovies in me Lea & Perrins Worcester and stumbled upon this awesome read:

It's amazing how it's made. Here's a small portion of the process:
“Each major ingredient is treated separately. The anchovies are preserved in salt, for example, and aged for three to five years, in a process similar to that which produces nam pla fish sauce in Thailand, while the vegetables are pickled in vinegar. All are stored in small blue barrels, which are labeled with the name of the ingredient and the date.”

I love cabbage. My mom made great stuffed cabbage and being of Irish decent boiled cabbage with butter is the best as well as cole slaw (of which I have a large homemade bowl in my fridge right now). Cabbage love seems to be kind of a thing among Irish, Germans, and various Baltic/Slav groups. But LC stuffed cabbage? Uh, no.

Never had stuffed cabbage..and I guess I would probably give it a shot, but probably not from Lean Cuisine. There are other products they make that are more my style.

1. There are some foodstuffs which people don't realize really qualify as ethnic. Cabbage is one of them. We don't actually come to blows in our household when we debate Danish braised red cabbage v. sauerkraut, but there can be much rolling of eyes.
2. I think that if you're not raised on the whole idea of cooked cabbage or sauerkraut, it's simply cole slaw material. Not to diss cole slaw, but it's a totally different puppy. Especially when it's served with smoked meats or piled on top of a pulled pork sandwich. YUM!
3. I have tried to make stuffed cabbage, and it's a total pain. It's totally worth finding a good frozen version. I haven't had LC, but you gave it a rating high enough that I will try it.

@meg – That was the first thing that crossed my mind while watching this video (re:wondering where the anchovy might be hidden in this product)… “I wonder if it has worcestershire sauce in it?” You beat me to it!
It has to be listed in the ingredients because fish is one one the “Big 8″ food allergens that must be declared in product ingredient statements (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, peanuts, and tree nuts).
I will respectfully disagree with you on the taste of anchovies though… can't stand 'em! Oh, well… that means there's more for you, right?

To answer the QOTD: Yes, I've had stuffed cabbage rolls before, and they were good… however, the Lean Cuisine stuffed cabbage (which I will admit I have not tried) does not look appetizing at all… if anything, that picture would inspire me to put the box down and back away slowly.

I love my mom's stuffed cabbage, but there's something weird to me about frozen pre-cooked cabbage. For $2.44 you can make your own!

I actually like the LC stuffed cabbage very much! It's important that you eat it with a knife and fork. If you slice the roll, you can eat it all together. It will not cut with a fork, as you discovered. I think the sauce is quite tasty and I like to mix it with the 'tatoes. Oh, and it's not a new item at all… been around for years.

I actually LOVE stuffed cabbage. So when I first saw this item at the store I had to give it a try. And I completely agree with your rating on this one. Though I also agree with the others who recommend cutting it with a knife.
And by the way – Cabbage isn't just a european thing… asians love it too! I'm part Irish and half Corean. Maybe that's why I love it so much!

I originally was disgusted by the idea of this Lean Cuisine. One day they had a whole bunch on sale for a dollar so I thought it wouldn't hurt to pick a few up and eat as a snack. I was presently surprised by the taste. It actually was really good and quite filling. So deff give it a try.
I also just discovered this website. For someone that relies purely on frozen food because I am too lazy to cook, I am so glad it exits! Thanks!
