Episode 126: Kashi Tuscan Veggie Bake

Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

It looks like a veggie lasagna, it smells like a veggie lasagna but will it taste like one? This Kashi Tuscan Veggie Bake is vegan so please pardon my skepticism. Cheese is perhaps the most important element in things like this. Will the Frozen Food Master find a vegan dish he likes finally?

I didn't think this was all that bad, but the Mayan Harvest Bake is definetly the best.

Oh YES!!! The Mayan bake, it's Kashi's best frozen meal...ever!

I don't think Kashi's 7 grains of goodness translates well to pasta. I don't like any of their pasta meals. I would give it an extra star just because I normally love Kashi, but I agree this isn't a meal worth repeating.
  • Ok I haven't heard one good thing about Kashi's Frozen Meals. I have never had one and sorry Greg but thanks to you (for eating it something so "chalky" and to live to tell about it) I don't think I ever will. Plus it is major expensive! Too much for our tight budget right now.

Oh by the way thank you so much for all the coupons. Went to the store and got a bunch of frozen meals (mostly for Randy to take to work, guess I must love him to let him have all the frozen meals :P ) Anyway we saved $10 on meals so thank you! :D
  • Well I'm glad they at east called it a veggie bake rather than lasagna. One of my pet peeves is when veggie options are called by they imitated counterparts....like meatless hamburgers...wtf?!? Call it a veggie burger. BTW, wiki defines lasagna as being "...made with alternate layers of pasta, cheese, and often ragù (a meat sauce) or tomato sauce." So seeing that it's not really alternating layers and contains no cheese it's more apt to call it a veggie bake (or veggie pile sandwiched between noodles :P) Speaking of that....do the drapes match the carpet?

I think maybe the crustiness was due to not following the 5 poke directions....as the FFM isn't it imperative to follow the cooking instructions? :) You're an outlaw. I typically nuke my dishes longer because I love the crustiness. What's up with the "outer edge" direction? I've never seen that.

No QOTD huh? In that case I've got one for you sir. What the longest you've had something in the freezer that you consumed thereafter? What was it? Did it taste fine?

P.S. Speaking of veggie, Gardein has a coupon for a free entree right now: http://www.gardein.com/
  • I hate Kashi frozen meals, they have absolutely no flavor. I do enjoy their cereal though.

I left this comment on your other video from a few days ago by mistake, but you have to try Michael Angelo's Baked Ziti & Meatballs. Seriously, I will pay for it if you don't like it! You've done a couple other of MA's entrees, so you oughta try this one; it was a real winner in my book!
  • I'm not surprised you didn't like this meal. I already swore I'd never eat anything made by Kashi after trying some of their cereal that tasted like twigs and bark. I've never seen a frozen meal that had cooking directions like that. I bet 5 minutes on high in the middle of the microwave would have yielded the same results.
