How many margaritas did you have before filming this? Seriously, monkey bread is awesome and I'm glad there's an easy version of it.
As far as favorite things with a hole … in keeping with the pastry theme a fresh Krispy Kreme glazed donut, hot out of the grease. Nothing better.

I LOVE MONKEY BREAD. It's always been a pain to make because it gets so messy. I… now have to find this.

Commenting before I watch the whole episode, but I have memories of monkey bread circa 1990. Now, granted, I grew up in Mississippi; but we've been making monkey bread for years. It's pretty easy to make with a bundt pan and some canned cinnamon roll dough!

Greg I think you out did yourself on this review! Great job! I give this review a 5 star
I have never had monkey bread. Although I have heard of it and seen many recipes for it. Maybe I'll have to actually try one!
I guess my favorite thing that has a hole would be my tennis shoes. I love to go for walks (helps clear the mind and get away from my troubles).

Yesssss monkey bread!!!! It's technically a Hungarian coffee cake…..or also know as golden crown, pinch-me cake or bubbleloaf. It's certain where the name comes from but there are two possibilities:
1)the bread resembles the monkey puzzle tree
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkey_puzzle_tree
2)the act of several people pulling at the bread is reminiscent of monkey behavior
By the way that was the best intro and outro ever…you tried not to laugh, me too
Echo710 got to it first but the quotes were Indian Jones and MBFGW.
So how much did you end up eating of it? I can't imagine 8 people fighting over that thing!
Favorite thing with a hole in it…..the one Ring that rules them all!!!!! Also waterslides…..and Cheerios!!!!

There's also this explanation:
Its source comes from a 1968 Dallas Morning News column by chili guru Frank X. Tolbert. On the advice of a culinary friend, he interviewed one Ann King in Albany, Texas, whom he described as “monkey bread's inventor.”
Here's what she told Mr. Tolbert: “Why did we call it that? Well, when we finally found just the right recipe, we were bedeviled by some young children. So we named it for those little monkeys.”

My favorite thing with a hole would have to be Bridgford Monkey Bread! Doesn't get much better, right?
Glad you liked it. FYI, the technical term we use for our special Monkey Bread sauce is “Goop”. Take care!

July 22nd, 2009 at 12:58 pm
Thanks Mike! From now on, I will refer to it as “goop” instead of sauce. So good.

Hi Greg,
Just found your site and podcast tonight. You are freakin' awesome!!! I need to catch up on your work here, and I just emailed my bf about it. I'm trying to diet right now and lose those last 10 lbs or so. Tonight, instead of heading to the kitchen I was seeking food porn ..and did you EVER deliver!!! Thank god there aren't any Monkey breads in my kitchen!! However – that looked SO good and I felt like I was having some as I watched your episode. I think I'll be buying some to share real soon now. Keep up the good work and thanks much for helping me stick to my diet. I especially LOVE that you go over the nutrition facts for the items you are reviewing. Kudos to you!! Take Care!

Also my fave thing with a hole: I'm actually a vegetarian and I eat the fakin' bacon so maybe I don't qualify for this. LOL! Every day when I drive to work there's this guy in a plushy pig suit on the corner of a local breakfast place. He dances some hot pig happy jig number on the corner and places a sign (every day!) nearly on my window that just says “bacon” and has an arrow pointing to the breakfast place on the corner. Every day it makes me laugh and I wave, and he waves, and then he moves to the next car to accost them with his bacon-ness.
As a kid, I liked the cookies that had a hole in them, and were shaped like flowers, that you could put on your fingers and eat. I used to put one on every finger while watching cartoons.

My favorite thing with a hole is huge, dark and resides in Kentucky. Sound dirty? Well, sort of. The lower you go the more wet it gets. I'm talking about Mammoth Cave National Park, of course! One hole leads to 365+ miles of natural, cool awesomeness (upper 50 degress at all times inside). Keep up the good work, Greg!

My favorite thing with a hole is to drill a hole lengthwise through a slice of pizza. Then I like to put a wooden stick through the hole. Pizza on a stick is difficult to master, but eating it is more satisfying than most people ever feel in their whole life.

Greg-
Thanks for the great review of our Monkey Bread! Believe it or not, it stays soft for at least an hour after you heat it, even after it cools. Most people agree that it's much better microwaved than heated in a conventional oven, and a lot easier. I like to heat it upside down, so you don't have to flip it, you just lift the tray off.
My favorite (clean) thing with a hole is a golf green!

There is a savory version of this Bridgford Monkey Bread, Garlic Parmesan! That would be great when having a big italian family dinner with a big bowl of spaghetti and meatball, kids would love it.
This recipe from the Bridgford website looks easy and delicious. I wonder if it would be even tastier deep fried. Hmmm..

I tried this stuff shortly after watching the review and I must say I am bananas for Monkey Bread!
OK that was a joke…I would never say anything that gay in my entire life….but the stuff is seriously amazing.
Enjoyed with an ice cold cup of milk or a scoop of Haagen-Dazs, it can’t be beat.
Lets just say it has a permanent place in my heart and my cart…right next to the box of White Castle.
Any chance of a Garlic Parmesan Monkey Bread review in the near future? I am sure a lot of people would love to see it.

Now I have to find out where to buy… the closest Walmart is about 30 something miles! OMG! I have got to have it! We usually fix ever other Sunday morning

You should talk a whole lot less–shutup and eat it! A lot of my time just to see what the hell it tastes like…And you kept saying the same crap over and over again. We get it-it's cinnamon…it's pull apart…
