Episode 216: Jimmy Dean Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches

Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

When I hear meal size, I think, big enough to fill my belly. After all, anything less is just “snack size” right? So when I saw the Jimmy Dean Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit Sandwiches were “Meal Size” I skipped lunch in preparation for a belly over capacity.

Was the Jimmy Dean Biscuit Sandwich as big as it looked on the box? And what about the circular piece of bacon? And how does the biscuit compare to the Down Home Goodness of southern style scratch made biscuits? The Frozen Food Master will tell you.

Question? Was the bacon soggy or crisp? I like crisp bacon…I would try it in the oven just for that reason. Hate to say it, but I am curious about deepfrying as well. I just like a piping hot biscuit with butter.

The bacon was not super crispy but it wasn't soggy either. right down the middle. As for deep frying these suckahs, you bet I am. Watch for it in a couple of weeks.

I've had these in the sausage variety. It is a breakfast “meal size” for me – because it definitely sits heavy in my belly. Too bad about 3 grams (!!) of trans fat.

Jelly and butter on biscuits – or, sweet and savory: jelly on a sausage biscuit.

i'm not an overly huge fan of microwave bacon since they tend to have a strange consistancy and be too salty, what is your favorite microwaveable bacon?

It seems like any kind of breakfast sandwich is real small. One time I got ripped off by breakfast Hot Pockets that were a lot smaller than normal ones. Favorite thing on a biscuit has to be sausage and gravy; I love southern cuisine.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'll take sausage over bacon any day, especially on a breakfast sandwich. If there is a sausage variation of this product (which there probably is), I would definitely have gone for that one instead.

Then again, looking at the nutritional facts… cholesterol… saturated fat… sodium… TRANS FAT… unless these were just mind-blowingly delicious (as in five-star material), I don't really think it's worth it. If I'm going to eat an unhealthy breakfast sandwich, it had better taste amazing… and it doesn't sound like these are particularly amazing.

My favorite thing on a biscuit? Just honey. Or some jam or jelly.

Best thing on a biscuit — sausage gravy. Albeit sounding disgusting and vile, those two things together along with a cup of coffee is the perfect breakfast.
