Episode 250: One Word Review Hebrew National Beef Franks in a Blanket
Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master
Whoever decided to wrap little hot dogs inside pastry should be given a medal, immortalized in a statue, given a key to the city, and an honorary degree from Yumville University. When done right it seems like a match made in heaven. Little dogs all cuddly in a sleeping bag of buttery goodness.
But let’s be frank, if the dog itself isn’t good, it doesn’t matter if the dough is painted with angel dust, it just won’t be good. In steps the Hebrew National Beef Franks in a Blanket. Hebrew National, the fine makers of kosher all beef hot dogs because they “answer to a higher authority” does hot dogs well. But what happens when they squeeze those things into a junior casing and wrap puff pastry around it? The Frozen Food Master will tell you!

I dont get it with the salt. They could take 30% of the salt out and the product would be better in my opinion.

And there is also 3g of Trans Fat! The taste does not justify the damage.

Yikes, Trans fat. 3 g damage indeed. I don’t get the Franken Fat deal either. That level of trans fat is just unacceptable in any serving size.

Hebrew National dogs. I have them in my fridge and felt the need to look. They have .5 g trans fat per dog. I eat two so thats 1g. No human should consume 2g or more per day. This trans fat is really bad, dont feed it to your kids folks if you can avoid it.
My two cents

Greg I think people really need to know about Trans Fats and Partially Hydrogenated Oils and how bad they are for you.Maybe you should always make them aware if either one is in the product. One tricky thing to remember is even if it says 0 Grams Trans Fats, always check the ingredients because sometime you will find Partially Hydrogentated Oils in there which is basically a Trans Fat.
