Episode 263: One Word Review Celentano Cheese Tortellini

Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

What makes a good frozen pasta? Because most frozen bags of pasta are so much more expensive than their dry boxed pasta counterparts. Is it the quantity that makes it a better value? Is it the taste?

This bag of Celentano Cheese Tortellini was not cheap. And the quantity was not large. In fact it wasn’t enough to feed my entire family of 5. But you don’t care about whether I was full after this meal. You care about how it tastes.

Wow, a different view from your kitchen.
Say, is that a Smashing Pumpkins box set I see up there on top of that shelf??

I agree with you that cheese tortellini is often WAY too salty… the salt can overwhelm the cheese filling completely, and if you add sauce to it (I like my cheese tortellini with a simple tomato-basil sauce), the salt just kills the flavor of the dish altogether. So I will have to be on the lookout for this product… in the case of cheese tortellini, subtlety is definitely a positive thing, especially if the quality of the cheese (and the pasta) is good.
