Episode 264: Hot Pockets SideShots Mini Cheeseburgers

Posted by: Gregory Ng: The Frozen Food Master

Wait a minute. These Hot Pockets SideShots Mini Cheeseburgers look familiar. They look like those little hockey puck dried out frozen buns, Bundinos which I reviewed almost a year ago. Did Hot Pockets do better?

The Frozen Food Master reviews this dish, show you how it looks, and tells you how it tastes in this episode of Freezerburns.

How does it compare to White Castles, Greg? Glad you didn't burn yourself.

I just picked these up the other day. I haven't tried them, but after your review, I may just have to eat them after I finish typing this comment.

thanks for saying variety and not flavor

also the size of the buns are like the size lengthwise of a hotpocket, but pinched in on the sides, which, obviously, means you are getting less food than a normal hotpocket, so i hope you didn't pay the normal hotpocket price

thanks for this entertaining review

I can has mini cheezburgers?

(Sorry… sorry… I couldn't resist!)

I have to admit, I remember all Hot Pockets as being pretty awful (although I admit it's been years since I last had one)… and their most defining factors were that they all tasted pretty much the same, and worst of all, they all had that same, nasty crust with the awful “cheese” baked into it… and that crust always got completely soggy from all of the grease. So… way too greasy, and not much flavor beyond “generic meat and way too much grease.” Needless to say, I was shocked that these Hot Pockets fared so well in your review.

It was quite a surprise that even the nutritional facts weren't too horrifying… true, it's not health food, but for a mini cheeseburger (and for a Hot Pocket), the numbers were not bad at all. Even more surprising was that you liked the taste well enough to give it four stars. And it actually *looked* pretty good too… how did the bread hold up? Did it get soggy or stale, or did it taste as good as you said it smelled? Who knows… I'm curious enough that I might actually have to taste this one. (Oh, the shame, to be seen buying Hot Pockets…)

One more question… what was the “sauce” in these burgers that was mentioned on the box? All you mentioned was the meat, cheese and onions.

Loved the review… and was very surprised! My only wish was for a better description of the taste of the bread (since the quality of frozen bread can really suffer from having been frozen)… and of course, I wonder what the supposed “sauce” was. Still, great review (although perhaps it should have come with a warning label for all of the jokes you made regarding the shape of the product)!

My favorite SNL skit was from the early 90's…Jiffy Pop airbag! Unfortunately, I can't find the video on YouTube, but it was a parody about an airbag that fills up with Jiffy Pop when the engine system is alerted with a crash

“How's the other driver?'

“Not so good. How's the Jiffy Pop?”

(with a mouthful of popcorn): “It's TERRIFIC!”

My favorite SNL skit was with Chris Farley and David Spade. Farley is a motivational speaker called in by parents to talk to their kids about a bag of pot they found. “His name is Matt Foley. Now hes been down in the basement drinking coffee for about the last four hours.”…Foley-”Im 35 years old, divorced, and I live in a van down by the river!”
Farley's tight tucked in shirt and its body language is hilarious especially when he runs in place and falls on the table. http://www.hulu.com/watch/4183/saturday-night-l...

I got the Super Value pack of this and due to the box's size, it was taking up too much room so I took them out and had no ideal what the cooking time was and it was the only food I could find in my house. Thanx for reading the cooking instructions hahaha
