This is the sorriest thing I have ever seen. Let’s take two separate ideas (Medieval Knights and Monsters) and jam them together, call it a “Krazy Combo” and pretend we aren’t reaching for a gimmick. Kids dig themes but I would be hard-pressed to find a kid that would think this Kid Cuisine Monsters & Medieval Mac ‘n Cheese meal was acceptable.

The Frozen Food Master reviews this product, shows you how it looks, tells you how it tastes, and gives you the lowdown in this episode of Freezerburns.

Uh… maybe the knights are supposed to be going off to fight/slay the monsters…? That's about all I could come up with to tie the whole “concept” together, and even that requires quite a stretch of the imagination. It would work better if they had used dragons instead of monsters, I think; “knights vs. dragons” makes more sense as a theme. But then again, if it made sense, it wouldn't be a CRAZY combo…

…Okay, okay. It's a Kid Cuisine meal; making sense is probably not a high priority here.

The cheese sauce probably looks watery because KC didn't hose this one down with orange goo!

What I wonder is: Why do all Kid Cuisine meals feature corn as the vegetable side dish? I wouldn't know for sure, not being a parent myself, but aren't kids at least more adventurous than *that* when it comes to vegetables? I've never encountered a child who wouldn't eat any vegetables other than corn… couldn't the company at least mix it up a little by throwing in some “safer” vegetable choices like carrots, or potatoes in some form (no, fries don't count), or (gasp) even a few GREEN things like peas, broccoli, or green beans? Yes, it's supposed to be “kid food”… it doesn't have to be gourmet… but I think Kid Cuisine could (and should) do a lot better when it comes to variety. It just seems like the company has been throwing the exact same thing into those little blue trays for years without really putting any thought into it at all… and it's a shame, because it really wouldn't take that much effort at all for the company to seriously give this brand an upgrade and put out a much better product line.

My least favorite monster is our beloved Fuhrer, Adolf Judas Obama

    *shrug* – It’s a gummy.

    Awesome…

  • Andy

Geez… a whole box of all that starch and fat for each kid? That's a terrible product!

My kids would collectively become “The BLOB”, my favorite monster, if I let them eat crap like that.

I ate crap like that as a kid and regret it. I don't blame my parents though, as I was addicted to microwave meals back then.

My favorite monster is definitely a werewolf. They're killing machines and always leave bloody messes (great for movies, music and books!). Lycan show the basic human struggle of balancing between primal instincts, society and your own guilt. Also, the idea of being a normal person by day and superhuman by night is like turning into a superhero though in the case of most werewolves, it's like becoming a villain. Still a cool idea.

I enjoy watching your reviews and they really have helped me when in the frozen food section.

  • freezerburns

Glad my reviews have helped! Werewolves are expert killing machines I agree.

  • freezerburns

Andy, couldn't agree more. Very little redeeming value in these meals.

  • freezerburns

I suspect the answer is in the marketing. I know my kids hate green beans. I try to get them to try them every week or so. But I know they still refuse. So if I have to pay $3+ for a meal thats just a novelty, I wouldnt want to have the fight over green beans.

Its the parents that feed these to their kids every meal that worries me.

    greg,

first time to see this after ashort newspaper article
don't know what others may think but i believe you are on to something
i'm just curious as to whatever happened to grow it in the garden, pick when ready, eat wholesome fresh and natural

keep on going this is great

He seems more of a Imp in that regards.

Well I for one can’t eat commercial Green Beans as I grew up ‘spoiled’ eating Green Beans out of the garden during the summer and home canned Green Beans the rest of the year. I didn’t even eat normal frozen or canned beans until after I left home, I still come home and borrow jars from mom, and they just don’t taste like beans to me.

Parents that feed these low grade meals to their kids worry me as well.  Not only are they lowing their kid’s standards they are also killing any chance they might have to learn how to cook their own meals.  Kids who grow up only eating these kids meals will eventually end up eating the adult tv dinners later in life.  Both types of meals just have way too much salt and calories for anyone to eat them on a regular basis.
