A Bon Appetit writer wrote that this Marie Callender’s Chicken Pot Pie is better than homemade. So I made my own chicken pot pie from scratch and put it head to head. How will this frozen option compare to the made from scratch one?

The Frozen Food Master reviews this Marie Callender’s Chicken Pot Pie. He will tell you how this frozen product looks, smells, and tastes in this episode of Freezerburns.

You could have made 6 small pop pies so that you could compare the two one on one.

Let me just say that my own Chicken Pot pies would definitely come out on top. Of course my own pies are from completely my own recipe.

I remember as a kid my mom making pot pies using some pie pans she had that had rudolph formed into the bottom of them so that when she turned them out you could see the shape in the bottom of the pie as you eat it. That was so fun to eat around Christmas.

PS I’m not surprised that you can cook. Anyone can cook. All it takes is effort!

I tried a Marie’s chicken pot pie years ago. I thought it was way short on filling and way long on pie dough.

My favorite scratch dish is BBQ grilled Thai chicken or pork satay. I shortcut the spicy dipping sauce from a jar. I beat the French Thai restaurant in town at their own game. :9

I think my favorite scratch dish would have to be my homemade pizza.

My favorite homemade thing is Louisville-style chili.

Hey Greg have you ever eaten a chicken pie from a company called Willow Tree Farms? They’re out of Attleboro,Ma.They sell their products in supermarkets as well as online at Willowtreefarm.com.Their really 52 ounce big pie actually looks like the one you made.Except theirs has gravy inside of them. The chicken to me tasted just like chicken you would eat off of a rotisserie chicken. If you’ve never had one,you should try one. They’re really good.Flaky crust and it tastes more like homemade.Definitely try one if you haven’t had one yet.

INTERESTING. but uh. as someone who didn’t grow up with “home made pot pies” i feel short changed. it seems there’s some nostalgia factor for you differentiating the two pies which i did not connect with at all. something about how the chicken is different, i really don’t understand.

not defending callender’s pie, both looked amazing

    thanks for this entertaining review

I absolutely adore the Marie Callender’s Chicken Pot Pies. Great for a quick and easy quality meal when you don’t have time to cook yourself. Actually there really has never been a Marie Callender’s meal that has left a bad taste in my mouth.

As for favorite thing I cook… Burritos. My dads recipe and they taste, well from what people say, simply amazing.

Marie Callender has amazing products, even for the fact that they come frozen. Delicious. Thanks for doing this review, I love the ones where you pit one product against another, homemade or otherwise.

If you are cooking more than 2 pot pies, does the cooking time have to be increased or is 48 minuets all you need for 10 oz size?
